We are delighted to announce the immediate availability of two new forms of empty columns for laboratory usage: the rimless ones, the prolonged one.
Rimless Ones
Designed for automation & high-throughput applications, these empty rimless columns come with five sizes (1 mL, 3 mL, 6 mL, 12 mL and 20 mL). Their applications depend on the sorbents and frits you choose, e.g. solid-phase extraction (SPE), solid-phase synthesis. Custom options are available, of course.
The empty rimless columns feature compact configuration and minimal footprint. Compared to rimmed columns, rimless columns have significant advantages in high-throughput applications:
- Min. distance between columns is 30% less. This requires shorter displacement of robotic arms, thus improves throughput.
- Footprint is 50% less. This makes it possible to design compact and portable systems.

Prolonged One
The empty long-body AC column comes with only one size (6 mL), and is recommended for affinity chromatography (AC). Its prolonged column design makes it possible for customers to pack a higher bed of chromatographic media, which is favorite for improving separation performance.

Old Ones
In addition to these new products, Biocomma has been providing customers with other empty columns.
Empty straigh-barrel cartridges / columns, which normally work under gravity flow, positive pressure or vacuum, are widely used in solid-phase extraction (SPE), purification of proteins and nucleic acids, desalting of synthetic oligonucleotides, etc.
Empty Luer-inlet columns, which can be operated under positive pressure via peristaltic pumps, are used in many areas as the straight-barrel columns.
Empty spin columns, which are designed to work with centrifuges, are typically used in nucleic acid purification based on silica gel adsorption.
Empty FPLC columns, which are HiTrap-like and compatible with GE AKTA systems, are used in purification of tagged proteins, desalting of proteins and nucleic acids.
Besides, we also offer other forms of empty columns and multi-well plates. We’d like to cover them in next articles.
Biocomma is now expending its laboratory solid-liquid separation portfolio, offering both frits and empty columns for various usage. A new catalog of these products will be available soon. Customers are welcome to request a copy of the upcoming catalog. For more information, feel free to contact Biocomma via info@biocomma.com.
